About
Our journey began at a small university in South Carolina. A friend stopped by my dorm room one day early in our freshman year and said, “I met the man you’re going to marry!” I laughed. We met, and was she ever right! Steve and I fell in love, married and graduated. Filling our ’69 Mustang with everything we owned, leaving magnolias and sweet tea behind, we headed west for the scorching desert in Arizona . We taught in a private school, Steve - Bible and Art in the high school and I taught at the elementary school level. Three beautiful children came along, Shea, Luke and Jesse, and I loved the title of my new role as stay-at-home mom. Steve soon transitioned into the position of worship pastor at our church.
Twenty-one years later we were called to help start a church, and although it was difficult leaving extended family and friends, our family moved back to where our journey began. The south. Atlanta, Georgia. Some of our fondest memories were experiencing our children lead worship with us there. I also served in women’s ministry and with an organization that rescues young girls forced into sex trafficking in Atlanta.
In March of 2018 we visited the island of Boracay in the Philippines where Dan and Tori Beaver began a work in 2006. They invited us to experience the ministries they have launched and asked us to prayerfully consider joining them. Our hearts were drawn to the Filipinos, but would God lead us to the other side of the world? One evening as we looked off into the sunset of Boracay, we realized that this same sun would soon rise as warm rays of light on our children and grandchildren so far away but always close in our hearts. We knew God was calling us on yet another journey extremely different from our roots, and we accepted God’s invitation to serve together full-time in the Philippines.
